$27.99

A spring bloomer that does the work for you.

The Spring Cactus — also sold as Easter cactus (Rhipsalidopsis gaertneri) — puts out a full flush of star-shaped flowers every March through May, then stays a tidy, glossy green plant the rest of the year. It's a member of the holiday cactus family, but unlike its Christmas cousin it saves its show for spring.

What you'll receive: one fully rooted, blooming-size plant in a 6" nursery pot, grown in our Southern California greenhouse.

A note on flower color: these are grown in mixed color batches — pink, red, orange, or white. We can't guarantee a specific color, and you may receive a plant that differs from the one photographed. If color matters for a gift, message us before ordering and we'll tell you what's flowering now.

Care

  • Light: bright indirect. Direct afternoon sun scorches the segments.
  • Water: when the top inch dries — roughly every 1–2 weeks. It's a tropical cactus, not a desert one, so don't let it bone-dry.
  • To trigger blooms: give it 6–8 weeks of cool nights (50–60°F) and short days starting in January. Buds set on the segment tips.
  • Don't move it once buds form. Sudden light or temperature changes make it drop them.

Long-lived, easy to propagate from a single segment, and often passed down for decades.
