The plant that pays you back in pups.

Pilea peperomioides — Chinese Money Plant, pancake plant, UFO plant — grows perfectly round coin-shaped leaves on slender upright stems. It's one of the few houseplants that actively multiplies for you: mature plants push baby offsets up through the soil, which you can separate and pot up or hand to a friend. That's how it spread across the world before nurseries ever sold it.

What you'll receive: one fully rooted plant in a 4" nursery pot, grown in our Southern California greenhouse.

Care

  • Light: bright indirect. It leans hard toward its light source — rotate a quarter turn weekly to keep it symmetrical.
  • Water: when the top inch dries, roughly every 7–10 days. Leaves curl slightly when it's thirsty. It rots easily, so drain fully and never let it sit in water.
  • Soil: well-draining potting mix. Standard indoor mix with a handful of perlite works.
  • Pups: offsets appear at the base once established. Wait until they're 2–3 inches tall, then cut below the soil line with a clean blade and pot separately.

Compact enough for a desk or shelf, fast-growing, and genuinely easy to propagate — the reason it gets passed between plant people.
